daar Attends Advanced Workshop for PFA/SBT with Dr Greg Hanley
This past weekend, the team at daar had the privilege of attending an advanced workshop on Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill-Based Treatment (SBT), led by Dr Greg Hanley, a pioneer in behaviour analysis. Dr Greg Hanley has significantly progressed the field of behaviour therapy by developing these transformative methods, which have proven to be highly effective in addressing a wide range of behavioural challenges. His research and approaches are revolutionising how we support individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly in areas such as academic skills, motor skills, emotional regulation, and social skills.
Dr Greg Hanley's approach focuses on identifying the underlying function of challenging behaviours and replacing them with functional, positive behaviours through respectful and compassionate methods. This workshop allowed our team to deepen their understanding of how PFA can be used to assess problem behaviours effectively and how SBT can be applied to teach crucial skills that enhance an individual's overall well-being.
At daar, we are constantly seeking the most up-to-date and impactful strategies to ensure that our participants achieve their goals. The PFA/SBT approach is especially potent in improving outcomes in crucial areas like:
- Academic Skills: Helping children focus, engage, and perform better in educational settings.
- Motor Skills: Supporting physical development and independence through structured skill-building.
- Emotional Regulation: Teaching individuals how to manage and express their emotions in a healthy manner.
- Social Skills: Promoting meaningful relationships and effective communication, both key to thriving in social environments.
Our participation in this workshop further solidifies our commitment to applying evidence-based, innovative practices that deliver long-term benefits to those we serve.
